Frank Buck

Frank Buck Gumakers of America Inc. produced this card set devoted to adventurer Frank Buck in 1938. There were 48 cards in the set, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3".

Years before Bring 'Em Back Alive, world traveller and big-game hunter Frank Buck was the star of this titular card series devoted to his overseas exploits (real and imagined). This attractive card set is more difficult to find than Topps' offering, but collectors are willing to pay premium prices for it when located.

The card fronts show a vividly colored piece of artwork, surrounded by a white border and featuring a small copyright line superimposed. The card backs give the card caption and a large block of text explaining the image, with the card number at the top left. The copyright line sits at the bottom left, while across from it is a facsimile of Buck's signature.

Note: The cards in this series are printed in thick white cardstock, but many were printed off-center, and this should be considered when grading.

The American Card Catalog number for this set is R55.

Value: Individual cards from this set, in Excellent condition, can bring up to $12.00 to $15.00 each. A full set of 48 may command a price of $600.00 to $800.00.
